The exhibition of Balys Buračas' (1897–1972) photographs „Just yet, photographing...“

This presentation of B. Buračas artistic legacy commemorates the 120th birth anniversary of a photographer, regional ethnographer and artist.

The exhibition presents more than 150 pieces of photoarchive material and records from B. Buračas’ photographic collection housed at the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art.

On the display – the whole palette of the artist's favourite themes: festivals and celebrations (singers, wedding guests, musicians, people busy at work (masters, craftsmen), Lithuanian landscapes with magnificent architectural, ethnographic and folk art objects (fabrics, knitwear, furniture, spinning utensils). The collection is complemented by B. Buračas’ unexpected creative experiments – a self-figure portrait and stereoscopic photographs. As the year 2017 has been announced the Year of the National Costume, the key focus of this exhibition has become photographs depicting people in national clothes.

On the international scale, the photographer was highly evaluated as far back as 1937, when he was awarded the Gold Medal for the collection of 27 ethnographic photographs at the Paris World Exhibition Art and Technology in Modern Society. The artist successfully collaborated with such editions as the Illustrated London News, the famous French Encyclopedia Larousse, the Czech and German press.
