Old Weaves and Forgotten Interlaces
Author: Bratislava Idvorean-Stefanović
The current presentation Old Weaves and Forgotten Interlaces, of antique woven textiles and no longer used weave interlaces sheds some light on certain archaic elements of textile funds through their forms and functions that became obsolete long ago, and are thus largely unknown nowadays. Exceptional historical value of movable material textile culture is in the focus of the protection of contents and phenomena of non-material cultural heritage. The exhibits presented are shown in relation to the context of the chronology and content of archive photographs. This way, the real and imaginary meaning of these archaisms can emerge from the depths of the traditional symbolism. In that respect, this can be viewed as a rare opportunity to grasp a series of anachronistic scenes with exhibits (made between the mid-19th and the first decades of the 20th century) representing heterogeneous textile traditions of Vojvodina, in a thematic exposition, in 2014.
