Lerapo Exhibition: African bone tools and ivory

Lerapo, literally meaning ‘bone’ in Sepedi, is a permanent exhibition that explores the results of a preservation project of an archaeological collection of bone tools and ivory recovered from the Iron Age sites of K2 and Mapungubwe Hill (AD 1020 – AD 1290). The process and outcome of the curation, conservation and research of this nationally significant cultural heritage collection is the first effort of its kind and will hopefully set a precedent in southern Africa for similar archaeological preservation endeavours in the futures.
