An evening of poetry with ANDREW McMILLAN - 6th September 2018

Join us at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery on the 6th September at 7.30pm for a wonderful evening of poetry with Andrew McMillan. Ticket price is £12.50. Doors will be open from 6pm allowing you explore the museum and art galleries, including the special exhibition Titanic: Honor and Glory this is included in the ticket price. Andrew will be reading from his new poetry collection playtime. This is his most recent collection published in August 2018. It focuses on the childhood and adolescence delving into the development of our sexual selves and adult identities. Analysing the rites of passage experienced as we enter and reach adulthood. Andrew McMillan's debut collection physical was the first ever poetry collection to win The Guardian First Book Award in 2015. The collection also won the Fenton Aldeburgh First Collection Prize, a Somerset Maugham Award (2016), an Eric Gregory Award (2016) and a Northern Writers' award (2014). It was shortlisted for numerous others including the Dylan Thomas Prize, the Costa Poetry Award, The Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year 2016 and the Forward Prize for Best First Collection. Most recently physical has been translated into Norwegian (Aschehoug, 2017) and a bi-lingual French edition, Les Corps Des Hommes (Grasset, 2018). His second collection, playtime, will be published in August by Jonathan Cape. He is senior lecturer at the Manchester Writing School at MMU.
