Cinema of Conflict: War Film Season & History Events

To commemorate the centenary of the end of World War 1, the John Gray centre Film Appreciation Club is screening a series of war films in November. As part of the film season, the Club, in collaboration with Local History Service, is also holding history events relating to WW1. Events include a screening of GB Samuelson's 1923 silent film "A Couple of Downs & Outs". Described as "the original War Horse", the film was lost for around 80 years before being restored by the BFI. An introduction and a post screening Q&A session will be provided by representatives from Scotland's War. To mark the contribution of women to WW1, there will be screenings of selected short films from the Imperial War Museum collection, showcasing the remarkable stories of women working on the home front and the front-lines.
