Goldwork Embroidery Course with Ornamental Embroidery

Learn the skill of goldwork on this two-day workshop, inspired by the highly ornamented mid-eighteenth century candelabra in The Portland Collection. Guided by Dr Lynn Hulse and Nicola Jarvis, participants will create an elaborate goldwork embroidery of a snail and bumble bee, crawling on an ivy stem. Students will be directed in working felt and string padding over which various gilt threads, gilt bright check and smooth purls will be stitched. Additional sparkling effects will be added with gilt chips and spangles.
Admission
This two-day workshop costs £200. The cost of the workshop includes materials, refreshments (morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea) and a walk and talk with Curator Gareth Hughes.
