Jaya He GVK New Museum at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport Terminal 2 (CSIA - T2) has taken significant steps over the last year to reach out to diverse audiences and connect with innumerable travellers and other audiences via various interventions. These ventures taken by the museum held true to the vision behind creating the museum i.e. to make people aware of their heritage and instil a feeling of pride within their hearts towards the great country that they belong to.
Taking a leap, this year for one more time, Jaya He joins hands with ICOM to celebrate International Museum Day. Going even bigger than last year, this year Jaya He has planned a week long engagement program called “ THE JAYA HE CARNIVAL” for the travellers following this year’s theme “ Hyperconnected Museums : New Approaches, New Publics”
The concept:
Hyperconnectivity is a term invented in 2001 to design the multiple means of communication we have today, such as face-to-face contact, email, instant messaging, telephone or the Internet. This global network of connections becomes each day more complex, diverse and integrated.
Mumbai airport is one of those spaces where people from various backgrounds, be it cultural, geographical, professional come together at one place. It can thus be said that it is one of the most hyperconnected touch points. Jaya He fortunately shares its home with this hyperconnected space. The idea is to leverage this and bring together these readily available varied audiences, digitally and physically. This conjunction gives them a chance to take a pause in their busy lives and get connected to their softer side, to what makes them unique, to their culture.
The Jaya He Carnival draws its inspiration also from childhood memories and hence a mood of a Fair is the theme of all the activities. Taking a sustainable step forward, we use paper as our hero for all the decorations that would be done across the terminal to create the ambience of a fair. Origami motifs, pin wheels and other such paper festivities shall adorn various areas in the airport terminal to take the travellers back to their childhood.
Many interactive activities such as origami workshops, block printing workshops, musical performances, hands on training with classical musical instruments, meditative colouring and so on have been planned for the carnival to engage the visitors. The museum opens its doors to various audience who are non-travellers, people from various institutes have been invited for a special tour to connect with them and exchange ideas.
