Evening Lecture with John Smith Thursday 31 May, 7-8.30pm An evening lecture exploring the Roman Army and their campaign in Britain. Military historian John Smith will explore archaeological evidence of Roman military equipment through re-enactment and how this translates into creating a picture of the Roman soldier. John Smith has been involved in archaeology for 40 years and worked at two Roman Villas - Rockbourne, near Fordingbridge and Bignor in Sussex where he was Curator for 3 years. His special area is the Roman Army, particularly in the West Country. Thirty years ago he was one of the 'diggers' at Lake Farm, Wimborne - a Roman Legionary base. Booking recommended
