May Day Celebrations at Beamish Museum

The May Day King and Queen will be crowned, plus there will be music, Maypole dancing and crafts. Visitors can have a go at traditional Maypole dancing throughout the day in The Pit Village, with musical accompaniment Benny Graham from The Pitmen Poets! The important crowning of the May King and Queen will take place at 2:30pm each day, can your little one claim the coveted title? This will be followed by a Swedish masquerade dance and entertainment throughout the day. Visitors can also make a May Day mask in The Pit Village school, the more creative the better! Plus we need your help to make our Jack in the Green on the special Pit Village cart, using traditional greenery. There’ll also be the chance to learn about traditional May Day activities up at Pockerley Old Hall. Plenty to get involved with! As with all daytime events, Unlimited Pass holders enter free of charge!
