Meccano Exhibition at Beamish Museum

The exhibition will take place in the Collections Study Room next to Open Stores and will be a brilliant opportunity to admire a timeless toy. There’ll be working models of all kinds, including industrial and agricultural vehicles. Meccano has an irresistible attraction for young and old alike and, despite changes in children’s toys, has stood the test of time. Devised by Frank Hornby (who was also responsible for Hornby Dublo trains and Dinky toys) to amuse his two sons, the toy was patented in 1901 as ‘Mechanics Made Easy.’ It became known as Meccano in 1907 and went on to take the toy world by storm.
