Bronze in the Bronze Age: What was it for?

Evening Lecture with Rachel Crellin The arrival of bronze metallurgy irrevocably altered the prehistoric world. Bronze plays a key role in the stories that we can tell about the Bronze Age in Britain and Ireland. The majority of research focusses on manufacture and deposition of bronze objects, but how were they actually used? Combining experimental work with metal weapons and tools with analyses of prehistoric axes, swords and spears we will begin to consider the changing uses and meanings of bronze during the Bronze Age.
