Mrs Darcy's Dressmaker and Keeping Jane

The year is 1837 and Mr and Mrs Darcy are anticipating the marriage of a beloved daughter. Join Mrs Darcy’s dressmaker as she stitches the gowns for this great occasion, and shares snippets of gossip picked up from fitting to fitting. Scandal loves an audience, and the antics of the Darcy family’s wider circle provide more than enough delicious fuel for this 40-minute one-woman play. After a short interval, Textile Conservator Sarah Howard will share her experience of conserving two surviving textiles reputedly worn and made by Jane Austen, a silk pelisse coat and a cotton patchwork coverlet.
