Mourning and Melancholia

Art Macabre, purveyors of life drawing with a deathly twist, present a special event in collaboration with the Freud Museum. Explore and draw the complex web of emotions associated with these two states of loss, and their links to depression. Nude and veiled models will pose throughout the museum, presenting poetic tableaux and symbols portraying absence and loss. Draw their presence and explore ideas of negative space and absence through your sketches too. With poetry readings by William Blake and quotes from Freud's essay "Mourning and Melancholia" published 100 years ago. Drawing materials and paper provided. All levels of creative experience welcome. Over 18s only. Art Macabre inject a lethal dose of theatricality and curiosity into life drawing. Over the past seven years, thousands of people have enjoyed rediscovering the pleasure of drawing from life at their events. Previous collaborations have included British Museum, Tower of London, Royal Academy, cemeteries and old operating theatres, as well as festivals including Latitude and Wilderness. Believing everyone can draw given the right inspiration, Art Macabre mix narrative, nude model tableaux, props and music to create unique drawing events.
