In 2008 ISPRA inherited and currently holds the conspicuous Geological and Historical Heritage of the Geological Survey of Italy.
Since 2012, the Geological Collections of the Italian State have been packed and stored, together with the rest of the patrimony, at ISPRA's warehouses in Via Brancati 60, Rome, waiting for a new exhibition site to replace the historical one of S. Susanna square.
With the closure of the Geological museum, the heritage is nowadays no more available to the public.
For this reason we present as an “Event” in the frame of the “Museum day” the possibility to make a virtual visit at the Museum Collections through the site: Virtual Museum of Geological and Historical Collections.
It is accessible online a selection of findings and artifacts and the description of the activities carried on in the museum, waiting for a new desirable opening to the public.
