[WORKSHOP] Conservation and Restoration Workshop

The theme chosen for 2017 International Museum Day is Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums. To coincide with the theme, the University Museum and Art Gallery is offering a workshop for the public to experience the behind-the-scenes secrets of paintings conservation and restoration. Three main topics will be addressed through several hands-on activities: How does an oil painting age and damaged? How can a forgery be detected? How can a painting be restored? Participants will learn how a painting is inspected by conservators and will be able to take part in a live demonstration of the effect of solvents on paintings.
