Inspired by ICOM’s proposal theme, for the International Museum Day: " Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums", the Museum presents an activity based on daily customs house: the history of the New Customs Building, smuggling across the border as a practice and fight against fraud will be highlighted.
18h - "An object and its speeches per week" - in partnership with the Porto City Council, the object will be “Smuggling´s Viola”, belonging to the customs house collection, that will be the teaser for a dialogue, where different perspectives of anthropology, museology and anti-fraud services of the Tax Authority will be approached.
21h30 - "Zé do Saco: the smuggler" and the "Taxes Guard Mr. Pires" will conduct a visit through the New Customs House Building intricacies, recalling the paths of the goods and the old customs practices.
