Fan with bone guards and sticks being plain, and undecorated, the guards having a large wedge shape section of bone which can be moved either up or down the sticks when closed, and so varying the size of the fan. When at it's smallest and open the fan is 2/3 rds of a circle when expanded forms a semi circle . The leaves are of white satin backed with a rough silk, and painted at the front by hand, with a butterfly and a large spray of wild roses and harebells. The sticks, of which there are 13, not including the guards are held together by a metal rod and carved, gold coloured metal ring. Being collapsible probably enabled the wearer to carry the fan in her reticule.
