Very large Spanish fan. The large, wedge-shaped guards are of olive wood, engraved and gilded with flowers, leaves and insects. The 14 sticks of olive wood, also slightly engraved and gilded whilst the leaves are of a continuous curve of silesia and paper backed black satin, bound at each edge with black tape and hand painted in pinks, browns, greens and white with four birds on a branch of blossom and leaves. The metal ring has a length of wired pink, double sided satin ribbon attached for securing to the belt.. The box is paper covered with a central decorative motif, and the makers stamp on the inside lid. Inside the box is a small paper envelop, that now only contains a crumbly powder - unknown substance.
