Love is in the air on Europeana

With Valentine’s Day approaching, we’ve decided to get into the spirit of things and look at some of the love stories on Europeana.

Love in art, as in life, takes all kinds of shapes and sizes, and it does on Europeana too. From the tender clasped hands of Rembrandt’s Isaac and Rebecca in The Jewish Bride to the amorous embrace of Aldegraver’s anonymous lovers, there are plenty of different couples courting in our collections.

If you’re in the mood to explore your romantic side, you can get some help from some art historical masterpieces at  VanGoYourself, and even win a prize too! Winners will receive mugs with their recreations on, and there is even a bottle of champagne for one lucky pair. You can learn more about how to enter here.

Why not use these images to inspire your own Valentine’s plans… From a sunny beach in Deauville, France, to a leafy garden in The Netherlands, where would your dream date take you?
