Campaigners attempting to persuade Channel 4 to organise a one-off episode of Time Team in honour of Mick Aston, the former presenter of the archaeology show, say they hope a new fundraising scheme will convince commissioners to organise the dig.

Lee Brady, whose petition has received more than 9,000 signatures for the proposed Mick Aston Time Team Tribute Dig, has revealed that two former presenters of the programme, Mary-Ann Ochota and Carenza Lewis, have offered their support to the appeal.

“We want to show people that we really want this to happen for Mick,” says Brady.

“We have 60 days to raise up to £20,000, which is our aim.

“We will then show this to Channel 4's commissioning team.

“If they don’t budge then the funds will be sent to a charity – possibly the Young Archaeologists’ Club.”

The fundraising page has received £310 in pledges during its first five days.
