Empire of the Sun

In June 2013 the EU LEADER project Empire of the Sun was released – the result of the collaboration of four museums and three countries that share world-famous astronomical and archaeological remains. Just to mention some from Norway in North to Italy in South – astronomical observatories as Stonehenge in England, woodhenges in Scandinavia and Southern Europe, rock carvings from all parts in Europe with the same style and iconography, and archaeological finds, i.e. bronze showing us a Europe with contacts on all levels – political and commercial relations, or telling us about an “European Union” which is several thousand years old.

This shared history influenced the way in which prehistoric humans viewed the universe, and what they did to meet the needs of their communities.
